Midland Theatre - KC Magazine and Helix Architecture

I was thrilled in February to get a chance to attend the ADDY show in Kansas City and also to see the interior of the Midland again. I got a chance a couple of years ago to actually photograph the interior of the Midland Theatre for KC Magazine and it is absolutely breathtaking. Shooting it meant I got the opportunity to literally see all of the theatre, and really get a chance to get up close to the incredible restoration work. Without a doubt I'd love to thank AMC, for having the foresight, and Helix Architecture, for having the capabilities to pull off this world-class project. It's a real jewel for Kansas City.

This was a strange combination; a wine cellar followed by a nursery. Two great locations and a lot of fun on the shoot. Thanks to the home owners that welcomed us in and the artisans that helped create these wonderful home features.

Woohoo! Foodtastic; I had a great afternoon today cruising to a couple of wonderful Kansas City restaurants and capturing some fabulous food items. I got a couple of excellent assignments at City Tavern and Melbee's and I really enjoyed working with the chefs and staff at both places - thanks for all your help.

KC Mag; Dream Jobs - Anthem Media

Just finished up a doozy of a series of environmental portraits. It'll be in the June edition of KC Magazine. This was a wonderful article based on people and their "dream jobs". I must admit it was fun meeting the head brewer at Boulevard, walking out on the grass at Kauffman and checking out the Presidential Suite at the Speedway. But of course my favorite is ChefBurger - I love the food, the space and the branding.

KCB; Williams & Williams Auctions - Anthem Media

This is one of the stranger shoots I've been on ; I got to spend a whole day tagging along with a team of Auctioneers from Williams & Williams and it was quite the experience. I was able to see several houses on the East side of Kansas City that I don't expect to see again in the near future and witness them being sold for as little as $1,000.00 then we went out to Bates City (it's that part of Kansas City just before we reach St Louis...) and saw a huge family house being picked up for a great price. I would definitely recommend checking out the auctions to see if you can find investment properties or even a new home and the team from Williams were superb to hang out with.

Home Design; O'Connell Residence - Anthem Media

I got a chance to work on another great interior by Bill Poole at Driftworks. This one is in the new condo building designed by El Dorado architects on third and Delaware - it's an incredible building and it was published in Dwell last year. Chadwick had us shoot a wonderful series of images to capture the furniture (from Retro Inferno) and the beautiful layout of the interior.

Erin Benda: Anthem Media

Erin led me a merry dance as I tried to get a chance to shoot for Anthem! It took about six months of pestering and cajoling but it has definitely proven worth it. Many of the great assignments that they have had me cover have become cornerstones of my portfolio and they have allowed me a wonderful level of creative freedom and inciteful direction as I have captured work for multiple mastheads.

This shoot rocked! We had a wonderful opportunity to meet a number of the successful small businesses in Kansas City and what we saw was wonderful. These individual firms are each succeeding in overcoming incredible odds against national competition. They included Bruce Smith Drugs, White Haven Motel, Hartman's Hardware and Rainy Day Books.

Home Design; Frank Lloyd Wright - Anthem Media

There are a couple of Frank Lloyd Wright projects in Kansas City and I finally got a chance to photograph one of them. This particular Frank Lloyd Wright house hasn't been photographed very often in the past so it was a unique opportunity to photograph an architectural masterpiece. The overall story was not just the house but also the Anthem Media party that was taking place that evening.

Another years worth of voting is over and some killer restaurants have won once again. My favorite was the restaurant that wouldn't cook us any food - so we got to photograph one of their customer's half eaten meals...sorry. On the flip side I did find the Sweet Guy in Parkville - AWESOME!
